Over the weekend of 2nd to 4th October 2026, members of 1st Newton Scout Group enjoyed an exciting and memorable group camp at Ashworth Valley Scout Campsite. The camp brought together young people from across all sections, including Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers, with a total of 27 young people attending.
Throughout the weekend, everyone embraced the outdoors and took part in a range of traditional Scouting activities. One of the highlights was a scenic walk around Hollingworth Lake, where the group enjoyed feeding ducks and observing the various birds and wildlife around the lake.
Back at camp, the young people developed their outdoor skills by cooking on open fires, learning how to safely prepare food in a traditional Scouting environment. As the evenings drew in, everyone gathered around the campfire to enjoy toasting marshmallows, sharing stories and creating lasting memories together.
The camp provided a fantastic opportunity for young people to experience life outdoors, including sleeping under canvas in tents, building independence, teamwork and resilience. Across the weekend, friendships were strengthened, new skills were learned, and all those who attended demonstrated great enthusiasm, determination and Scout spirit.
A huge thank you goes to all the leaders, volunteers and parents who helped make the camp a success. It was a fun-filled weekend that showcased the adventure, challenge and friendship that make Scouting such a rewarding experience.
27 young people | 4 sections | 1 fantastic weekend of adventure! 🏕️🔥🌲🦆
